Bawdsey Radar Museum Intern opportunities 2022

Are you full of enthusiasm? Want to develop your skills in Suffolk’s Small Museum of the Year?

At Bawdsey Radar we are committed to delivering an exceptional day out to all of our visitors.

We are looking for two interns to help the visitor team as well as the small team which looks after our award-winning retail offer.

£9.50 per hour part-time, 3 days a week (22.5 hrs per week) for up to 6 months.  Based primarily at Bawdsey Radar Transmitter Block Suffolk IP12 3BA .  2 days a week including Sundays plus one day a week working from home.

Our interns get the opportunity to develop their skills and gain experience by working alongside our guides and back-office volunteers. You will get involved in designing and sourcing merchandise, operating IT systems, cash handling and payment systems, creating displays and photos whilst delivering exceptional service in the gift shop and throughout the museum.

Social media is an important platform for retail at Bawdsey and you will need a good working knowledge of how to share information across social media for different audiences.

Working with such an amazing team of volunteers and staff has made my time with the organisation an unforgettable experience.  It has taught me lots about working within museums. A particular highlight has been working with our visitors and seeing the genuine pleasure people have taken from visiting the museum.

Tom Cox, Bawdsey Radar intern 2021

Bawdsey Radar holds an important place in British history. The work Robert Watson-Watt and his team did at Bawdsey in utmost secrecy to develop operational radar helped to win the Battle of Britain. Thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic England and many others, the 1937 building is now fully conserved and features a range of interactive displays throughout the brand-new exhibition.
